The Human Resemblance - Humanoid

By: Denisa Bani

Technology is improving at extremely high rates, with an uncountable amount of new products coming out everyday. One of which is the humanoid robot, an extremely complex machine that trys to imitate humans by trying to achieve the completion of daily tasks. Humanoids are made to assist humans in their everyday jobs. This is possible since this advanced machinary has different senses, such as vision, touch and hearing. These robots can walk, talk and carry items some can "think" depending on the software they are programmed to.

The Senses

The humanoid robot has different senses that help it achieve some everyday tasks. One of which is vision; robots can see using CCD cameras. Another feature is hearing; this is done through microphones in the robot. Touch is done by arrays of tactiles arranged around the robot. Humanoids also have another sense not mentioned before; proximity sensors. These sensors measures the distance from the sensor to the objects in the robot's enviroment. This is done through sonars in the robot.

The Function

Humanoid robots have been around for about a decade and they have a variety of different functions, some can carry trays, some teach languages, some just simply imitate human features and actions. What's intresting is the structure of the robots, its basically a metal version of the human body structure. Researchers must carefully study the human body's structure and behavior to build a humanoid robot.

Conclusion

In the near future there may a humanoid robot in every household. For now, there are many different models undergoing many changes until perfection, until then we will have to wait for the future to become the present.
