It all started with a perfectly normal day. I was peacefully sleeping in my bed one morning when my alarm clock woke me up with a loud ring. I rolled out of my bed sleepily and dragged myself to the washroom to shower. As I got out of the hot shower, I realized that I couldn’t see myself in the washroom mirror, but I figured that my reflection was just hidden behind all the fog.
After I got dressed, I looked into the mirror on my dresser, and I knew that something was wrong. I was completely invisible and I could not see the clothes I was wearing either. What seemed like an ordinary day was the day that changed my life forever.
I was extremely upset at first, because now I know that I would never lead a normal life. I wanted very badly for this curse to just go away. As I was walking down the street that day, I noticed a group of little kids surrounding a tree anxiously yelling for help. It turned out that there was a small cat stuck on the tree, and it was too terrified to jump down. A little boy climbed up the tree and tried to bring the cat down, but it protested and squirmed away as he reached for it. The cat must not be very fond of humans, I thought.
I desperately wanted to help, but I obviously couldn’t offer my help to the kids because they couldn’t see me. All I would just freak them out if I explained to them my whole invisible situation. However, I realized that since the cat couldn't see me, I can just climb up the tree, quickly grab it, and then take it back to the ground. That’s exactly what I did, and I can’t describe how proud I felt when I brought the cat down to safety. At that point, I decided that maybe I can get used to this new power of mine. To this day, the little kids still don’t know what happened and I guess I'm just going to let them keep wondering how on earth that cat got saved.
A few days later, I noticed a young man breaking into a vending machine and stealing all of the change that was inside. He loaded all of the coins into a backpack that seemed to be filled with many other things, then took off. I quietly followed closely behind him, and thanked goodness that he couldn't see me. I carefully got a small pocketknife and slit a small hole on his backpack just big enough for the loose change to fall through. I picked up all the loose change that fell out of his backpack, and I returned it all to the vending machine. I was so lucky that the thief never noticed that his backpack was getting lighter and lighter.
I decided that I should use my new super-power/blessing/curse for good and not for evil, so I decided to join the Super League of Superheroes under the alias "Invisible Woman". Now, my everyday life is extremely hectic, and I do all sorts of superhero deeds ranging from stopping thieves from robbing houses all the way to battling The League of Super Evil. Being a full-time superhero is not an easy job, but I'm up for a challenge. This will all take a while to get used to, but who knows, I might save the world one day.
Invisibility literally means to not have the ability to be seen. Often associated with magical and mythological means, it can actually be achieved in the real world through physics and sometimes even psychology. An object that is invisible must not absorb or reflect light in any way, or it will be seen by the human eye. The most popular ways to imitate invisibility is through transparency and camouflage.
