Pixar Animation Studios

History

Pixar was originally founded in 1979 as “The Graphics Group”. Later on in 1986, Steve Jobs bought it for $10 million and “The Graphics Group” was renamed “Pixar” because the Pixar computer was its primary product. At first, Pixar was a computer hardware company that sold their product to the medical community, government agencies and even Disney Studios. Unfortunately the Pixar computer wasn't selling well, so John Lasseter, a Pixar employee, started to make computer-animated commercials for outside companies with his animation department. In 1991, Pixar made a deal with Disney for $26 million to make three computer-animated feature films. The first of those three was Toy Story, the first ever film created by Pixar. The film earned a total gross of over $350 million worldwide.
