I was raised in Toronto, and for quite a while I was just like any other normal kid. But a few years ago, that changed...
Ever since I could remember, I had been taken to the local pool almost everyday. I never took any swimming lessons, I just got in with my floaties and floated around, each day was as normal as the previous, with the slight occasion of me falling out of the floatie and drowning. It didn't take me long to figure out that if I did nothing I would just float, and learning how to swim was pretty easy from there.
One day , I decided to go on one of the diving boards. It was pretty high up, but I felt pretty confident that nothing would happen. I climbed to the top and jumped off without hesitation, and I came hurtling down into the water. I knew the dive was going to send me deep into the water, but for some reason I just didn't stop sinking. I knew there was no way the pool was this deep, but even with my goggles on I couldn't see the surface. Everything around me became dark, and I didn't know what was going on.
As wierd as it may sound, I suddenly completely flipped underwater. I'm not even quite sure how I was holding my breath for so long, but that wasn't important. The water around me started to get brighter, and I launched up into the air. I tried swimming to shore, but it was just to far. Wasn't I in a pool? Anyways, I was swimming and swimming, but it didn't seem like I was getting any closer. I was getting very tired, and eventually I just couldn't swim anymore.
I woke up on some sort of beach. Waves were brushing against my feet. I started coughing up water, and trust me, water only tastes good when it goes down the first time. The sand around me was an ominous shade of green. I picked up a handful and squeezed it, and it turned into water. Wierd. One second it was sand that came from a Dr.Seuss book, the next it was a puddle in my hand.
It sounded really freaky, but I had a vague idea of what was going on. My thought was that there was some kind of portal in the local swimming pool, that could only be accessed by crashing into it at full speed. Kind of like that train station in Harry Potter. Cool, right? Now I was faced with an entirely new problem. How am I supposed to get back? I know the point where I flipped over was the point where the pool ended and the creepy alternate universe began, but the creepy alternate universe was a much longer trip to the surface. And this time I dont have a diving board to help me out.. so this posed a difficult problem indeed. My pants started filling with water, but I wasn't even in the ocean/lake/mysterious body of water. The weight of my body was causing the sand to transform into water, so I was sort of sinking into the sand. I picked up some sand and decided to taste it. It wasn't one of my best ideas, but it tasted surprisingly good. It felt like a mouthful of crunchy chips that exploded into some kind of tropical juice. Anyways, I had to think of a way to get out. I had two options, I thought. The first one would be to go into the ocean and start swimming until I got back to the middle point. The second one would be to go find some "locals" to help me out. I definately wouldn't make option number 1, but option number 2 might get me in an unwanted situation involving aliens. So I can either go on a swim for my life situation, or try and get some help. I was pretty friendly, so I guessed that it wouldn't be way to hard to make friends. Unless, you know, they were crazy blood-thirsty aliens. Im hoping for friends.
After sitting around for a while, I started to realize that I might be stuck here forever. I didn't even know where "here" was. I searched and searched, but there was no signs of life. Just the beach, with sand as far as I could see. The sky was pure white, the only thing I could see when I looked up was a planet in the distance. I decided that I was going to have to take the first option. This was probably a dream, I thought to myself. A crazy dream that just needed to end. I realized there was no way anything harmful could happen to me, I'm invincible in my dreams. I somehow managed to survive underwater for such a long time, so this shouldn't frighten me. I jumped right on into the water and started swimming–when suddenly–a hand touched my leg! I screamed, and swallowed a large amount of water. I tried my best to kick off the hand, but it just wouldn't let go. I tried my best to hold my breath, even though I didn't really have any to begin with. I reached the point where I couldn't take it anymore, and I inhaled more water around me.
I woke up on the edge of the pool, with a lifeguard trying to rescue me. I started coughing, and a mouthful of water came out. My mom rushed over as soon as she found out about what happened, but I still didn't understand what had happened. I guessed it really was a dream.
Once we were home, I took a shower and felt better than ever. I sat down on the couch and started watching television, when my mom came to tell me to help her bring in the groceries. I got up and walked to the car, and picked up the heaviest bag just to act strong. On the way back to the house, I tripped on a rock and I fell down, along with the groceries. My mom asked if I was okay, then said I was getting really accident prone. Whatever that means. I went to the bathroom to go get a band-aid, but when I was about to apply it on my scraped knee, there was nothing there. There was a stain on my pants where my knees where, and I thought that was blood. I guessed it was just a stain from before, so I went back to the couch.
The next day at school we went outside to go play soccer, and It felt a lot hotter than usual. I was dehydrating extremely fast, so I was constantly taking water breaks. Eventually the coach just thought I was making up excuses not to play, so I just had to suck it up and play. Later, the coach stopped the game and came up to me. Everybody was staring at me, and I wasn't quite sure at what was going on. She looked at me, and said that I was steaming. Steaming? I asked. Everybody still had their eyes on me. I looked at my hand and what I saw was unbelievable. My hand was litterally turning into steam. I was evaporating. I instantly dashed back to the washroom, and completely soaked myself in the fountain. My mom got a call from the principal, so I ended up coming home early. She looked at me and was also curious about the whole "steaming" thing. She ended up taking me to a doctor, and he didn't know what was going on either. On the way out of the doctor's office, I tripped and fell down the stairs. My mom screamed as I crashed into the floor, head-first. I felt cool liquid surrounding my head, probably blood. I thought the wierdest thing was that it didn't hurt, but later I found out there was something much more strange. My head had a dent in it, and I was practically dripping water at where I fell. There was water all over the floor, and my mom had just fainted at the horror of what she just saw. I didn't know what happened that day, until I remembered my "dream". I assume the sand I ate worked its way into my body, and now when I go under pressure I break into water. I wasn't quite sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but I had definately seen some pros and cons. I guess it would be terrible to evaporate in the sun, but now I don't think I can really feel pain. However, it is still pretty gross that I'm missing part of my head. But at that specific moment, I realized that I had a super power.
What Exactly Is My Super-Power?
Over the past few weeks I finally got the jist of my powers. Basically, I could morph into water in two ways. The first way would be through pressure, so if somebody punched me in the face, It just turn into water. The next way is sort of by will. I don't know how, but sometimes I can turn into water without hitting myself. Its kind of like moving a new muscle in your body, so its definately going to take some practice. The bad part is that I can't stay in hot areas like outside on a summer day for too long, or I'll completely evaporate. Another thing is I get thirsty really fast, and that It can be a nuisance to have your arm explode into liquid just because somebody punches you. Some of the cool things I found out is that when I turn into water in a body of water like a swimming pool or a lake, I can swim at incredible speeds. I can also change back to normal as long as there is enough water around me. The only bad part about that is that I lose my clothes while I do that, which I unfortunately had to find out in the public swimming pool.
What Do I Use My Super-Power For?
For now I think I'm going to try and keep my water-like powers a secret, just betweem my mom and I. The reason for that is because in most of the movies I've seen, a group of scientists would suddenly appear to start probing and examining me. As fun as that may sound, I'll try and work in the shadows. I'm trying to be a good person and use my powers for good reasons, but I'm not exactly sure I can be called a hero yet. I am, however, keeping my school safe from bullies. Thanks to my liquification, I can take any blow from any bully, and come out of the fight like nothing happened. I'm gonna have to start out small, but I'm sure in a few years from now, Hollywood is going to make some epic action movie about me!
As for that wierd dimension thing, I'm not sure what happened. I went of the dive board again and again, but I never managed to reach the other side ever again. Looks like some things aren't meant to be figured out.
