Conclusion

The film succeeded in showing how Apple and Microsoft came to where they are today. Furthermore it showed us the beginning of generative and closed technologies which have evolved drastically and are playing a major role today for many companies.

Apple is still known to be independent with their software such as IOS and OSX which can only be used on their own hardware, the iPhone and Mac respectively. No other company has the ability to make use of this software as it is built and designed only for use by Apple products. IOS and OSX are closed technologies and Apple has been known to favor closed technologies even when they first appeared with their Lisa and Macintosh computers.

On the other hand, we can see other companies take the generative approach such as Microsoft and Google. Both companies have very popular software, Windows and Android respectively, although the difference here is that Android is seen being used by many different phone brands such as Samsung, LG, OnePlus, etc and Windows is seen being used by many different computer brands such as Asus, Lenovo, Dell, etc.
