MULTICULTURALISM/GAY RIGHTS

Multiculturalism is when many different cultures/races are living together in a society. They all respect each other and each other’s cultures/races. In a multicultural community, they do not believe one race is better than the other or that they should all be part of one race. A multicultural society is formed when citizens from all over the world and of different races migrate into one society.

Every individual is of one race, the human race, thus, we should all be treated equally, whether we are homosexual, bisexual, transgender or heterosexual. Suicide is the third largest reason for the death of all teenagers, but it is the number one rationale for the death of homosexual, bisexual and transgender teens. The cause for this is the rejection of peers, parents and other adults. One third of all teens who commit suicide are gay, and only one tenth of all teens are gay. This means that homosexuals are 300% more likely to commit suicide than heterosexuals- those who are not gay. Studies also prove that in areas where homosexuality is promoted, homosexuals are 25% less likely to commit suicide than those living in environments not supportive of homosexuality. All citizens have the right to a safe and protective education/work place, whether they are heterosexual or not.

Canada is a very multicultural country. Canada has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world, making it a country full of citizens who are of different races. As a nation we believe that people of all races should be treated equally. This is why I believe that the multicultural/gay rights sign should be one of the symbols that represent Canada.
