Science is an important subject that's required in many grades, but right now, we'll be talking about grade 9 science in particular. In this course, a main component that will be covered is Scientific Investigation Skills and Career Investigations. In this area, you'll be expected to apply scientific investigation skills into these four strands; initiating and planning, performing and recording, analyzing and interpreting, and communicating. Here is a link to our grade 9 science text, which should explain thoroughly all necessary information: eBook. Now that you've seen how important science is to an excellent education, I will guide you through the course of grade 9 science a little more.
Biology is the one of many areas of scientific studies that this course will be covering. Currently in biology, we're learning about sustainable ecosystems. One example would be Easter Island. It used to be home to many inhabitants years ago, but now, it's only home to giant, face-like, stone structres. Clearly this ecosystem has failed to sustain life long-term and if you want to read more, visit History of Easter Island. Now that you've gotten an idea of what biology in grade 9 is like, let's move on.
Learning about the universe and what lies within it has always been one of my favourites. In this strand, you'll be able to test scientific theories made about our universe; its structure, formation and evolution. You will also be able to find out how all the planets regulate amoung our solar system, and what benefits or hazards they provide. Last but not least, you'll be able to learn more about constellations and what they may represent. This link is a great example: Constellations. This should give you more or less an idea of what you'll be learning in our Space unit.
Obviously there are more than just two strands in the grade 9 science unit. To find out more about the other two click here. To go back to the index, click here.
